2012 Eisner Awards Nominees Announced

eisners_logo_greyToday, Comic-Con International (Comic-Con) released the list of nominees for the 2012 Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards. The results will be announced in an awards ceremony on Friday, July 13, 2012 at Comic-Con International (SDCC).

Marvel’s Daredevil tops the list with six nominations for Best Continuing Series, Best Single Issue, Best Writer (Mark Waid), Best Cover Artist (Marcos Martin), and Best Penciller/Inker Team (two nominations: Marcos Martin, and Paolo Rivera/Joe Rivera). Jim Henson’s Tales of Sand, published by Archaia, received 5 nominations for Best Graphic Album-New, Best Penciller/Inker, Best Coloring, Best Lettering, and Best Publication Design.

With 11 nominations apiece, including 2 shared, DC and Marvel tied for the most nominations for a publisher. Close behind, IDW received 11 nominations, while Dark Horse had 10 (plus one shared), and Fantagraphics received 9 (plus one shared).

Daniel Clowes Receives PEN Literary Award

clowes-trimThis week, Daniel Clowes received the PEN Center USA’s Literary Award in the Graphic Literature category for Outstanding Body of Work in Graphic Lit.

Daniel Clowes is best known for his work on the Eightball #13comic series Eightball and Lloyd LLewellyn, and his graphic novels Ghost World, Wilson, David Boring, and Mr. Wonderful. Clowes has also written two screenplays adapted from his Eightball stories, Ghost World and Art School Confidential, both of which were directed by Terry Zwigoff.

Ghost World CoverAlong with winning numerous Harvey Awards, including Best Writer in 1997 and 2005, Best Cartoonist in 2002, and Best Single Issue or The Death RayStory in 1990, 1991, 1998, and 2005. Clowes also saw Ghost World nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay at the 2002 Academy Awards.

2011 Harvey Award Winners Announced

The 2011 Harvey Awards ceremony took place at the Baltimore Comic-Con on Saturday August 20th. Along with the Eisner Awards, The Harvey’s are one of the biggest awards events in the industry and this year the major players were DC Comics, Marvel Comics, and IDW Publishing – scoring 4 awards apiece.
