Known for his musicianship in Rage Against the Machine, Audioslave, and The Nightwatchman, Tom Morello brings his talent to another media – comic books. In October, Morello unleashes Orchid #1, part of a 12 issue mini-series from Dark Horse Comics.

Morello has talked to several media outlets about his work on Orchid and is excited about the possibilities of what comics have to offer. Each issue also includes a free downloadable song that was written for it.

Eric Powell’s The Goon PSA by David Fincher and Blur Studio

The Goon is a creator-owned comic by Eric Powell that is currently published by Dark Horse Comics. For the last few years, director David Fincher (Seven, Fight Club, The Social Network) has been shopping around a CG film version of The Goon with little success.
 
Clancy Brown and Paul Giamatti are on board to voice The Goon and his sidekick Frankie and Blur Studios is providing the wonderful CG animation for the film. Blur Studios has recently done some off-time work on a Public Service Announcement featuring The Goon. While it’s still in the rough stages, it’s still a good indicator of what you can expect from the film – if it ever gets studio financing.

The Nightwatchman’s Tom Morello Talks About Orchid from Dark Horse

Tom Morello, who gained fame as the guitarist in Rage Against The Machine, Audioslave, and now his solo project The Nightwatchman, is currently writing Orchid – a twelve issue miniseries for Dark Horse Comics whose first issue is due out in October.

Each issue comes with a free downloadable song to accompany the story. Written by Morello, Orchid features artwork by Scott Hepburn, who has previously worked on Dark Horse’s Star Wars: Nights of the Republic.

Tom Morello of The NightwatchmanRecently speaking to David Malitz of the Washington Post, Morello hoped that Orchid exposes a young audience to a radical worldview, just like Rage Against The Machine did. He says:

"It’s set in a dystopian future where humans are no longer at the top of the food chain. And the gulf between rich and poor is unbridgeable. And there’s a lot of cool monsters."
