Most longtime readers of Marvel comics recognize Carl Lucas as Luke Cage, Hero For Hire or Power Man. Created by Archie Goodwin and John Romita, Sr. in 1972, he’s one of the first black superheroes to star in his own title.
The blaxploitation trend was becoming popular in the 1970’s with films like Shaft, Super Fly, and Blacula, and Marvel tapped into that market with Luke Cage. He used exaggerated slang and had his own catch phrase – “Sweet Christmas!”
Well, along comes Patrick Willems in 2011 and he has a great idea – to make a Luke Cage film. Despite his friend’s suggestions for actors to play the lead in the film, Willems thinks only one person is perfect for the role… himself!
Did I mention that Patrick Willems is white? Take a look for yourselves!
