Aurasma will be releasing their Augmented Reality app on April 2nd as part of Marvel Comics’ Marvel ReEvolution Initiative.

The Marvel AR app will be powered by Aurasma and will be released on April 2, 2012 for iOS and Android devices.

Yesterday, at the SXSW Interactive Festival, Marvel Entertainment unveiled Marvel AR, the first major augmented reality app from a comic book company. As part of the recently announced Marvel ReEvolution, which brings the world of print and digital media together for a comics experience like never before, the Marvel AR app powered by Aurasma will be released on April 2 for iOS and Android devices. Fans can first discover the power of this new app in Avengers VS X-Men #1, arriving in comic stores on April 4 and kicking off the comic book event of the year in which the world’s most popular Super Heroes go to war!

Marvel Comics has finally announced their new initiative that Joe Quesada has been hinting at on his Twitter feed for the past week.

Marvel ReEvolution is an augmented reality initiative that bring together both digital comics and print comics into an interactive experience.

Although Valiant Entertainment has created an augmented reality experience for their first issue of X-O Manowar, Marvel seems to be going all in with their AR app. I believe that this adds much more value than just including a digital copy voucher in their print comics.

I just hope that this doesn’t mean significant price increases or lowered print page counts in the long run. It’s still too early to tell how this will play out, but I’m looking forward to checking out these AR comics when they see print in April 2012.

On March 10th, 2012, Jean Giraud, the French artist who was predominantly known as Moebius, passed away at the age of 73.

An influential international artist, Moebius rose to fame drawing the Western serial character, Lieutenant Blueberry, for Pilote magazine. Blueberry eventually split off into its own series and Giraud worked on 29 volumes in total.

After leaving Blueberry, Moebius went on to do science fiction and fantasy work for Métal Hurlant magazine . Two of his most famous serials, The Airtight Garage and Arzach, both got their start in the pages of Métal Hurlant. Later on he started his famous L’Incal series in collaboration with Alejandro Jodorowsky.

PETER PANZERFAUST, the Image Comics/Shadowline series that places the classic character Peter Pan in World War II-era France, has sold out of its second issue at the distribution level a week before its in-store date of March 14. It has immediately gone back to press, and a second printing (JAN128290) will be in stores the same day as PETER PANZERFAUST #3 (FEB120514), April 11.

The first issue of the series by Kurtis Wiebe and Tyler Jenkins also went into a second printing after an enthusiastic reception by critics, readers, and retailers. The second printing of PETER PANZERFAUST #1 will be in stores on March 21.
